Strategy & readiness

The implementation of Local Service Providers (LSP) applications represents a significant change in the manner in which Healthcare IT is provided throughout the NHS. In a short period of time, clinicians will be following a different working practice and current local processes will need to be assessed and reviewed. New applications do not offer an unlimited capacity for local configuration. For an effective use of these systems, current local processes will often need to align with centrally and regionally defined solutions.

NHS Trusts will have to complete a variety of pre-implementation activities and gain approval before any implementation activity can begin.

The Issue
The National Standard for Implementation (NSI) is a framework that provides guidance and national standardisation for preparation of Connecting for Health (CfH) implementation. Each Trust is unique in its requirements, its size, its budget and its resource. Your individual paths to the common goal will be different too. There is no one specific tool, but rather, an array of possible tools, from locally developed best practice, through NHS proven, to transferable techniques and approaches from other sectors. The common factor is that every Trust will need to follow the NSI and report progress at key milestones.

Model for Success
WCI can work with Trusts to address key readiness activities in line with the NSI at a number of different points across the implementation lifecycle:

0) Prepare for implementation - Business case, benefits realisation plan, stakeholder analysis
1) Initiation - Comm's strategy, planning, PID, risk analysis, quality plan, test strategy, data cleansing and migration strategy
2) Local design - Business process design, high level architecture design, interface design, data migration design, registration authority
3) Prepare for go live - Data migration initiation, operational readiness reports
4) Go live - Verification report
5) Support - Benefits review, handover report
